Abstract

The global pandemic of COVID-19 2019-20 is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The epidemic was initially detected in mid-December 2019 in Wuhan City, Hubei China and was recognized as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic can be fatal to its victims and medication and treatment has not yet been discovered. However, so far there has been no specific study on the effect of the hibah made for COVID-19 sufferers. This paper discusses the concept of marad al-mawt according to fiqh and medicine. An explanation was also made on the status of COVID-19 patients in the terminal disease category or marad al-mawt according to fiqh followed by several cases that have been reported regarding marad al-mawt. Finally, an explanation of the implementation of hibah guidelinesin the situation of marad al-mawt is suggested.
